A very warm welcome to the University of Canberra! Professor Deep Saini Nestled in the heart of the nation's capital, we are a young university with a bold vision. Our Strategic Plan outlines our ambitious objectives to be Distinctive by Design and a leading Australian tertiary institution by extending our regional, national and international reach. The latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed the University of Canberra in the top two per cent of universities worldwide, and among the top 100 universities in the world under the age of 50. This can be partly attributed to increased research publications and co-authorship, and growing international networks. At the same time, The Good Universities Guide Ranking shows that our graduates are more likely to gain employment and earn higher starting salaries than their peers studying at other tertiary institutions in Canberra, with our ranking at number one in the ACT for full-time employment. These are remarkable accolades for a young institution and have been made possible with the exceptional work of our students and our academic and professional staff. At the same time, the University is building a community culture that encompasses safety, inclusion and respect for all who live, work and learn on our campuses. The University’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Strategic Plan 2017–2021 is an important part of building a diverse and inclusive community and is our commitment to address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander outcomes across four main areas, namely: academic, research and innovation, employment, and community engagement. The University's teaching is enriched by our strong research ethos that focuses on outcomes leading to early improvements in the world around us. This reflects on our dynamic, innovative and collaborative intellectual environment. The University's focussed emphasis on work integrated learning gives our nearly 12,000 students valuable experience to develop key skills in the workplace. Our graduates are in high demand and many of our alumni (more than 82,000) occupy senior positions in public and private enterprise in Australia and around the world. Our campus is home to a wide array of cafés, eateries and fitness facilities where study and work can be balanced with a vibrant social life. For those who enjoy a slightly gentler pace or spending time outdoors, our natural park-like environment is home to many native birds and lots of kangaroos. We have embarked on a comprehensive community development plan that will see our campus transform into an integrated learning environment comprising four interconnected precincts as a showcase of the confluence of living, learning, innovation and entrepreneurship where academics, students and the public come together in a seamless knowledge-sharing space. Some of these plans are already coming to fruition including the University of Canberra Hospital Specialist Centre for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research that opened in mid-2018 and the Canberra Specialist Medical Centre, which incorporates Icon Cancer Care and is due to open at the end of 2018. These rapidly expanding facilities are delivering an integrated teaching and research environment, providing exciting new avenues for the University to serve its community. I invite you to explore our accomplishments, learn more about our courses, our people, our campus and, most importantly, our vision and plans for the future. I hope you like what you see. I invite you to join us on our exciting journey and I look forward to welcoming you to the University of Canberra family. Professor Deep Saini Vice-Chancellor and President
